Here's an illustration of how bad things are. Imagine if every Congressman were Bernard Madoff, except he hadn't been caught yet.
This is the problem with the USA. Almost all the leaders are psychopaths. Almost all the leaders are criminally insane. The end result can only be complete collapse.
If most of the leaders were honest and intelligent and emotionally strong, then psychopaths would be identified and excluded. In the present, all the leaders are psychopaths, or are people that psychopaths can easily control.
Almost all Congressmen have the same personality type as Bernard Madoff. Almost all CEOs have the same personality type as Bernard Madoff. Almost all high-ranking State bureaucrats are psychopaths or parasites. The net result can only be complete collapse.
Psychopaths and parasites will protect their turf, rather than allow reform. If there's only a small handful of psychopaths, then damage could be contained. Unfortunately, almost all the leaders are psychopaths.
Psychopaths are the role model. Productive workers are abused losers. There's nobody preventing the psychopaths from stealing too much. The only result can be complete collapse.

That high ranking bureaucrats are psychopaths is only one of possible explanations. Imagine you have two choices
1) do what is morally right / ethical and get $100K
2) steal $1 Billion knowing that you are fully immune from prosecution for this theft
What would you choose 1) or 2)? I would guess that 99.99% would choose 2). This is just a human nature. Does one necessarily have to be a psychopath to choose 2). Any thoughts, FSK?
I once knew a company headed by an ex-banker. He just messed everything up he touched. It was difficult to work out whether he was stupid or dishonest.
The workers under him worked out it was more profitable to do fake work, lie about it and then leave the company just before things blew up.
There were several cycles of doing this.
If a worker "stole" he would be rewarded. One worker worked out that it is easier to steal than to do real, productive work.
If a worker suggested doing honest worker, he was be verbally attacked.
His model was to get payment for work and then deliver laughable bad goods. Proving the work was rubbish would require expert technical witnesses in a court case and bump the costs up and so if this thief didn't "steal" too much from clients they could get away with it.
I never understood why they couldn't do honest work. They might have made far more money that way.
The one psychopath inspired a generation of workers directly working for him to do fake work and lie about it.
I was shocked that nobody ever had the balls to push back and ask why they couldn't do honest real work.
Anonymous #1:
Psychopaths are more efficient crooks than honest people.
Given the "Earn $100k honestly or steal $1B." job, then the job will be taken by a psychopath. The honest person, who would only earn $100k for his labor, is out-wheeled by the psychopath who will earn $1B for his labor.
An honest person will usually not be in a position to steal lots of money via State violence. That job will be invariably be taken by a psychopath.
